The Hudson River School was a mid-19th century American art movement embodied by a group of landscapes painters whose aesthetic vision was influenced by Romanticism. An outgrowth of the Romantic movement, the Hudson River School was strongly nationalistic both in its proud celebration of the natural beauty of the American landscape and in the desire of its artists tp become independent of European schools of painting. Includes 15 note cards and 15 envelopes. Measures 5" x 7" note cards. These 4 images are from the NY Historical's collection: Albert Bierstadt "Donner Lake from the Summi", Thomas Cole "Catskill Creek, NY", Thomas Hill " View of the Yosemite Valley, CA", George Innes " Hackensack Meadows, Sunset" and John Frederick Kensett " Shrewsbury River, NJ".
